The art of the tease: Mark Levinson’s 600 Series

  • Mark Levinson (the Harman brand, not the man) has announced its 600 Series of high-end electronics: the No. 626 Dual-Monaural pre-amplifier, the No. 632 Dual-Monaural amplifier and the No. 631 Monaural amplifier. All three new models are designed, engineered and assembled in the USA.

From the press release: “Each model is built upon Mark Levinson’s proprietary Pure Path circuit philosophy and features the brand’s iconic Tectonic industrial design, sculpted from solid aluminium and accented with red signature lighting that glows like embers beneath volcanic glass.”

    Let’s break ’em down…

The No. 626 Dual-Monaural pre-amplifier mixes an all-analogue signal path – modular design, dual power supplies, fully balanced – with a high-resolution DAC: the Precision Link III decodes digital audio arriving at each of its six digital inputs to support PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD. This is complemented by a Pure Phono MM/MC phono stage and a Main Drive Class A headphone amplifier.

We are invited to connect the No. 626 pre-amplifier to a single No. 632 Dual-Monaural amplifier or a pair of No. 631 Monaural amplifiers. Both amplifiers work in Class A/AB and feature fully-balanced Pure Path signal paths juiced by robust toroidal power supplies housed in a dedicated modular chassis.

Oddly, the power output specifications of each new power amplifier aren’t given. That might be because the new Mark Levinson 600 Series isn’t finished. The Munich High-End 2025 showing is only a tease with shipping on the No. 626, No. 632 and No. 631 currently slated for the end of the year.
