Orbital announces half-speed remastered 4CD/4LP Brown album

  • Orbital’s (second) Brown album is getting the super deluxe reissue treatment via London Records in the form of a 4LP boxset, a 4CD boxset, a 2LP (in various colours), a 2CD edition, a cassette and a digital download/stream.

The 4CD set ships in a 12″ box to house a pair of A6 flyers, two stickers and a hardback book containing “unseen photos, a track-by-track by Orbital themselves, and essays on the music by esteemed music journalist Andrew Harrison.”

Across those four shiny discs we get 32 tracks: the original album plus bonus material from the three EPs released alongside Brown in 1992/93; Radiccio, Lush, and The Peel Sessions. Rounding out the set is a live show recorded in New York in December 1992 and “Impact USA” from the US-only Diversions EP:

The 4LP also ships with the hardback book, flyers and sticker – plus a bonus Orbital slipmat. However, the tracklist isn’t as comprehensive as the 4CD edition. The 21-strong vinyl track selection adds the live show, “Impact USA” and an extended take on “Semi-Detached” to the original album tracks.

A 2LP version – available in black, double colour and Galaxy Brown – gives us only the Brown album’s original tracks.

Want the Radiccio, Lush and Peel Sessions tracks on vinyl? You’ll need to pony up for the Limited Edition 12″ Drops – or L.E.D.s – that come with new artwork.

Note how the original 2 x 12″ editions of Radiccio and Lush have each been collapsed onto one 12″.

    Radiccio:

    Side 1
    Halcyon
    The Naked And The Dead

    Side 2
    Sunday
    The Naked And The Dub

    Lush:

    Side One
    Lush 3-1
    Lush 3-2
    Lush 3-3 (Underworld)

    Side Two
Lush 3-4 (Warrior Drift) (Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia)
    Lush 3-5 (CJ Bolland)

    Peel Sessions – 1993:

    Side One
    Lush (Euro-Tunnel Disaster ’94)
    Walk About

    Side Two
    Semi Detached
    Attached

Those concerned about the remastering job being too loud can rest easy. Dave Turner, who also did last year’s Green Album box set, has ensured that the original master’s high dynamic range (DR13) has been retained for his 2025 half-speed remaster – see the DR Offline MKII analysis above. Turner has also added a little extra clarity and punch.

Me? I’ve pre-ordered the 4CD set, the 2LP in Galaxy Brown (already sold out) and the three L.E.D.s.
