Laurence Dickie is (perhaps) best known for co-designing the Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus in the early 90s. Nowadays, Dickie heads up engineering at Vivid Audio where – from his Brighton base – he designs loudspeakers that are manufactured in South Africa. Vivid loudspeakers look unusual not to play it clever-clever with outward aesthetics but for engineering reasons. They are also disarmingly light compared to the MDF-wrapped boxes that dominate the market.
I’ve had a pair of Vivid’s Kaya S12 standmounts in Berlin for several years and more recently, the company’s Portuguese distributor set up a pair of the Kaya 90 floorstander in my Lisbon pad to assist with a forthcoming Marantz Model 10 integrated amplifier review — because a considerable portion of my audience would baulk at me reviewing the €15K Marantz with €2K standmounts.
Was it not high time that I sat down with Laurence Dickie to discuss the Kaya range on the Darko.Audio podcast?
Yes, it was.
