In the wake of Musical Fidelity’s M8xTT turntable comes the smaller and lighter M6xTT. The new model aims to bring the flagship’s design philosophy down to a more affordable price point. And that design philosophy starts with a twin-layer ‘zero resonating’ acrylic plinth kept apart by Teflon spacers, each directly connected to the four thermoplastic elastomer-damped aluminium feet below. The tonearm is fitted to the top layer and the motor to the bottom layer.
The M6xTT borrows its bigger brother’s tonearm design – “an ultra-low resonance design with transparent acrylic bearing ring and conical aluminium tonearm tube” – but comes in at 9″, an inch shorter than the M8xTT. It outputs to the rear via a 5P DIN socket for which a semi-balanced 5P-to-RCA interconnect is supplied. The headshell on the M6xTT has been streamlined and comes with no factory-fitted cartridge. Fully adjustable VTA and azimuth plus a choice of two TPE-damped counterweights help us install our own.
Also TPE-damped is the 6.6kg aluminium platter turned by a single-piece belt attached to the motor sitting between the two layers of acrylic. The rotational forces required for 45rpm and 33rpm stem from a “precision DC-driven AC generator” whose frequency and voltage are created from scratch by the internal electronics for improved immunity to mains power fluctuations.
A heavyweight puck and leather mat round out the M6xTT’s feature set and the clear acrylic dust cover is available separately.
The M6xTT is handmade in Europe and will sell for £4799 or €4999.
