Magico’s S2 loudspeaker announcement is frustratingly incomplete

  • Magico has announced a new loudspeaker called the S2.

Here is what the Californian manufacturer tells us about the S2:

    • It’s a floorstander
    • It’s a 3-way design that uses four drivers
    • The single 5″ midrange driver and two 7″ bass drivers are built with Magico’s Gen 8 Nano-Tec technology: “an aluminium-honeycomb core sandwiched by graphene-reinforced carbon-fibre skins”
    • The 28mm tweeter has been borrowed – in part – from the company’s M9 speaker for a “diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm and neodymium-based motor system”
    • The drivers are crossed over using Magico’s three-way Elliptical Symmetry Crossover (ESXO) system that executes 24dB/slope Linkwitz-Riley filters using Mundorf capacitors and M-Resist Ultra-foil resistors (among other components)
    • The cabinet is made from a single piece of extruded aluminium for minimal vibrations and maximum strength
    • A full-height vertical brace then increases cabinet rigidity
    • Magico rates the S2 at 4 Ohm nominal and 85dB sensitive
    • Bass reach goes down to 35Hz
    • Each speaker sits 110cm tall and weighs 60kg
    • It is available in six different ‘Softec’ finishes and six gloss finishes
    • Shipping begins Q2 2025

Here is what Magico does NOT tell us about the S2:

    • The price

The absence of such crucial intel renders this news story frustratingly incomplete. Why announce the S2 now if its price has yet to be decided? Maybe Magico is attempting to double-dip the news cycle with a ‘technology announcement’ now followed by a ‘price announcement’ in the new year? At Darko.Audio, we don’t entertain such shenanigans.
