MoFi Electronics rolls out SourcePoint 888 floorstander

  • Mofi Electronics has announced the SourcePoint 888 — a new floorstanding loudspeaker from Andrew Jones that extends the SourcePoint 8 standmount design with two additional 8-inch paper bass drivers to relieve the coaxially-mounted midrange driver – also an 8-incher – of all bass duties. 888 = 3 x 8-inch drivers.

The two additional bass drivers work below 130Hz and have reportedly been seamlessly blended “utilizing carefully chosen crossover frequencies and slopes”. MoFi rates the SourcePoint down to 32Hz with the paper midrange driver crossed over with the 1.25-inch soft dome tweeter at 1.6kHz.

From the press release: “The new woofers employ dual opposing neodymium magnets in a configuration that employs a short coil in a long magnetic gap. The magnetic field is entirely uniform throughout the gap, resulting in a very linear and precisely controlled force for driving the cone. As well, each driver in the SourcePoint 888 operates in optimally sized, individual isolated chambers, the construction of which adds considerable stiffness to the cabinet to further reduce cabinet resonances.”

The net result is a 3-way floorstander that promises better bass reach and greater midrange clarity. Nominal impedance clocks in at 6 Ohms (with a minimum of 4.5 Ohms) and sensitivity is rated by MoFi at 87dB/2.83V/1m.

The SourcePoint 888 will begin shipping in Q2 of 2024 for US$4999.

Axpona 2024 attendees can get a sneak peek of the SourcePoint 888 and chat with Andrew Jones this weekend.
