The Sonos AMP is not a new product. It first broke cover in 2018, replacing the Connect:AMP, increasing loudspeaker output power from 55wpc to 125wpc in the process and adding an HDMI ARC input to the already well-established Sonos streaming mix: S2 control app, Apple AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect (but no Bluetooth).
The AMP sells for €799 in Europe, which places it slap bang between the more costly Bluesound Powernode (€899 – €999) and the recently released Bluesound Powernode Edge (€699).
Eyeing the possibility of a side-by-side comparison to each Bluesound (and perhaps throwing the Rotel A11 Tribute into the mix), I purchased an AMP from Sonos Europe’s online store. With its arrival at my door the very next day came a 100-day money-back guarantee. I would have three months to listen for myself. Not that I’d need that long. An extensive video review is on its way…
