Podcast: Inside Dynaudio’s Focus streaming loudspeakers

  • The Focus 30 is a loudspeaker from Dynaudio and perhaps the ‘Goldilocks’ member of the 2022 Focus series that also comprises a larger floorstander (the Focus 50) and a standmount (the Focus 10). All three new models are streaming active loudspeakers that internalise bespoke-fit amplifier modules from Danish neighbour Pascal and a streaming board from Stream Unlimited for Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Google Chromecast and (soon) Roon Ready. The trio of Focus can also play catch on Wisa streams but the clincher for yours truly was the presence – inside the speaker – of Dirac Live room correction that spells Future-Fi in six-foot-high neon letters.

I sat down with Dynaudio’s Chief Acoustics Engineer Stephen Entwistle (who hails from the UK) to discuss the Focus 30’s topology, its amplifiers, DSP, hard-wired connectivity and streaming board, all with one eye on long-term system support and longevity.
