Acoustic Energy has today announced an all-new 100 Series of loudspeakers. In order to improve bandwidth and power handling from each loudspeaker – without throwing the outgoing 100 Series’ compact dimensions and sleek appearance under the bus – the UK company went for a ground-up rebuild.
First up, a 5″ paper mid/bass driver (up from 4″) has been married to a “4-layer voice coil with flux rings”. That new driver reportedly demanded a 30% uptick in internal cabinet volume, which was achieved by increasing the cabinet dimensions by 15% whilst simultaneously switching the cabinet construction material from MDF to the thinner HDF (without any hit to mass or stiffness). Lastly, a 1″ soft dome tweeter and waveguide were developed to round out the new 100 Series’ key features.
This new entry-level range of loudspeakers currently comprises four models with a revised AE1202 flagship floorstander scheduled to arrive in the spring:
- AE1002 two-way standmount
- AE1092 floorstander
- AE1072 centre
- AE1082 active subwoofer
Pricing starts at £229 for the standmount and tops out at £599 (presumably) for the floorstander. The press release didn’t specify pricing for each model.
The 2022 1000 Series is shipping now with all models available in black or walnut vinyl veneer. The AE1002 is also available in white.
