Move over Sonos with your Port, Harman Kardon wants to talk to home installers and minimalists about their new streaming amplifier.
The Citation Amp measures a tidy 215mm x 230mm x 75mm and houses the Cambridge company’s ‘Digital Loop Amplifier technology, which promises to correct for “the natural errors and distortion anomalies that occur in digital amplification”. The amplifier stage is rated at 125wpc into 8 Ohms and 200wpc into 4 Ohms, the latter impedance its minimum handling capability.
On the Citation Amp’s back panel, next to the loudspeaker binding posts, we spy twin RCAs for analogue sources plus coaxial, HDMI ARC and TOSLINK for digital hookups. Ethernet and WiFi inputs talk to Apple AirPlay or Google Chromecast Built-in.
Rounding out the Citation’s feature set are a subwoofer output (with in-app adjustable crossover), a 3.5mm line-level output and an IR wand.
The Citation Amp is compatible with Crestron and Control4 home automation systems…and it stands not alone. The new streaming amplifier forms one small part of Harman Kardon’s extensive ecosystem of Citation streaming products that includes powered speakers, soundbars and subwoofers.
