“I’ll be back”, said The Terminator, a modern-day take on the R-2R DAC recipe but with full hi-res support and twin i2S ‘standards’-compliance.
And back it comes. Worldwide Denafrips dealer Vinshine Audio has announced the immediate availability of the Terminator-Plus, a souped-up Terminator DAC that 1) fully separates the DSP board from the analogue board that hosts the in-house-designed R-2R network arrays; 2) swaps out the original’s Femto clock for an oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO); 3) puts a silicon dioxide isolation barrier on the ground to “block noise from one end to the other”; 4) implements a redesigned power supply; 5) uses supercapacitors for both digital and analogue stages.
The Terminator-Plus isn’t a Terminator replacement but will sit as a bigger brother in Denafrips’ range to ship directly from Vinshine Audio in Singapore with a 3-year warranty for S$8698. That’s US$6238 at today’s exchange rate and a US$2000 jump on the original.
