Setting up a pair of loudspeakers isn’t a cakewalk. Most times it’s hard. Position A might be aesthetically pleasing but what if position B sounds better? Finding B++ might involve labouring over additional small changes to position and toe-in until we get the sound just so. All too often, this trial and error process lacks structure and can end up feeling like a bit of a crapshoot.
Stepping up to guide us are Wales’ Leema Acoustics and their UK distributor MIAN Audio: two ex-BBC engineers and Andy Moore (pictured above left) who draws upon his extensive audio show setup experience at Arcam.
The trio has put together a 7-page .pdf that guides readers through the procedure of maximising sound quality through placement. Adding some semblance of order to proceedings is their ‘grid system’ which aims to break the “loop of frustration”. The guide also suggests listening tracks to help with the dial-in. As a hi-fi enthusiast under lockdown, there are worse ways to pass the hours.

In case you were wondering, the loudspeakers featured in the guide are the Brigadier Mu-2 from Australia’s (Brad) Serhan + (Morris) Swift. MIAN handles UK distribution of the Australians duo’s speaker designs.
