A beginner’s guide to DACs

  • Not everyone is an expert. Not everyone understands the jargon. Not everyone has the confidence to say, “I don’t know”.

It’s important to stay as mindful of what you don’t know as what you do know (and how you learned those things). I’ve been reviewing DACs and covering high-end audio for almost ten years but I don’t consider myself an expert. Not even close.

And we all have to start somewhere. My digital audio journey began in the 90s with a Marantz CD player. In 2003, I moved to a Slim Devices Squeezebox, then another Squeezebox, then another. But it wasn’t until 2009, when I added an external DAC to the Logitech Squeezebox Touch, that my understanding of digital audio hardware took a major leap forward.

Perhaps you’re a beginner interested in making a similar leap? If so, this video is for you. Mind the distractions!
