A recent round of needledrops with the PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter told us that taking an analogue signal into the digital domain (with the PS Audio’s ADC) and then returning it to analogue (with a DAC) does not erode any audible differences between vinyl releases released almost 40 years apart; that analogue masters don’t always trump those cut from a digital file; that mastering quality matters more studio archive format.
Let’s spin the wheel again.
I’ve used the PS Audio digitiser and a turntable to create a second pair of 24bit/96kHz files. Download them here [54Mb] and vote for your preference in the poll below. This is a closer call than Part 1 – a third option for those who hear “no difference” has been included.
File identities and poll results to follow in a week or so.
UPDATE 30th January: this poll is now closed. Results here.
