Pinch, punch, first day week of the month. It’s also the first week of Q3 2017.
DAR’s schedule for the remainder of the year is beginning to take shape. Check it out here. You’ll notice a mix of reviews and show coverage has been pencilled in but nothing has been inked. A review isn’t a certainty until the box shows up. Show coverage isn’t a certainty until I show up.
You’ll note an uptick in music coverage on these pages of late. This is set to continue.
Looking back at last year, this site was very show heavy – more than I would have liked. This year, less so. Not that I’ll necessarily be covering fewer shows in 2017. Keeping the show reportage as lean as possible are this writer/videographer’s ongoing efforts to wrap up show reportage as soon as possible after the show itself closes its doors.
To state the obvious, my time is finite. The more I dedicate to one type of post, the less I’m able to commit to another. Less time spent on show reports means more time for reviews. A week’s worth of event coverage could be traded for a review. Or vice versa.
However, it’s reviews – not show reports, not news announcements – that afford me, and therefore you, insight into how a piece of equipment sounds. As regular DAR contributor and Chief 6mooner Srajan Ebaen once said: shows are the sizzle but reviews are the steak.
These are my thoughts; but what are yours?
