Winner of the OPPO PM-3 headphone giveaway, Naomi writes: “These [OPPO] headphones are f#$%@&! amazing and super comfortable too! I had to re-download all my music because I finally have a pair of headphones where you can actually tell the difference between FLAC and MP3. I’ve spent a whole month listening to the Radiohead studio album discography – arguably for the first time. The folding-flat ear cups are a nifty, portability addition. Many thanks DAR and OPPO”.
That’s great, isn’t it? Naomi is but 23 years of age so let’s chalk one up for young’uns who do appreciate good sound.
This month we’re giving away the ideal companion to those PM-3 headphones. Here be a chance to win an OPPO HA-2 DAC/headphone amplifier (US$299). The HA-2 is aimed at the smartphone user looking to improve the sound of his/her existing pair of headphones. Refresh yourself on what it does, how it works and what it sounds like right about here.
The TL;DR is this: the HA-2 bypasses the very basic DAC and piss weak headphone amplifier inside your smartphone to deliver greater clarity and more punch to your headphones. The HA-2 achieves this by sucking on the digital tailpipe of your smartphone so that it – and not your phone – can take care of D/A conversion and delivering juice to your cans. In return, you’ll get more detail and better dynamics that sum to an altogether more engaging listening experience. Oh – the HA-2 also doubles as a super-fast smartphone charger.
Like the majority of prizes given away on DAR, this unit is brand new and factory sealed (see top pic).
However, with this ‘ere site’s comments section currently in the deep freeze we’ll be taking a different approach to giving the OPPO device away to one lucky reader. To put your hand up for this freebie you must: 1) follow DAR on Instagram here; 2) look out for a photo of the HA-2 to be uploaded by yours truly anytime between Monday 21st February and Friday 11th March; and 3) comment on said post with the following: “Yes PLEASE, I’d love to win myself one of these”. The first person to comment on the HA-2 Instagram post with that exact phrase nets the prize. It could literally drop at any time so you should probably now sleep with one eye open. Or take it in turns with a mate to sleep in shifts.
Now for the small print: this competition is open only to residents of the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, Japan and most of mainland Europe. Allow me to head off questions like “Why isn’t this competition available to we poor folk of [insert country here]?” at the pass. The answer is: because it isn’t. #SorryAboutIt. And as should be obvious by now, you cannot win this prize without an Instagram account. Commenting via Twitter or Facebook won’t cut it. #SorryAboutItAgain.
To those of you still reading at this point, good luck. And remember: be alert but not alarmed.
Again, DAR’s Instagram presence can be found here.
UPDATE 25th March: Congratulations to Steve C of Baulkam Hills, NSW, Australia on winning the HA-2. His Instahands were faster than your Instahands.
