Did you think Tron:Legacy was a piece of shit? Were you heartily disappointed by the Daft Punk soundtrack? Were you all like “WTF?!” when they busted out the classical pieces instead of fully-charged technologique? Did you think “De-rezzed” was the only good track on it?
Are you all sad-face that Richard D. James releases new material at a glacial pace? Do you long for the squelchy acid of his Analord releases? Do you want more of those naive 303-infused tunes that he made back in the 90s? Do you want more of his dark shock-shock horror?
Did you tune out of Squarepusher when he started to make mock Weather Report records? When he abandoned moody dumb n bass, did you lose interest? When he aimed to become the next Charlie Mingus did you cry yourself to sleep?
At last – Squarepusher, he hears you! He feels your anguish. He is here to soothe your woes. Tom Jenkinson is back with new record Ufabulum that – to these ears – is the conjoining of AFX and Daft Punk. It’s everything that the Tron:Legacy OST shoulda been (but wasn’t). It’s intense, playful, epic, small, squelchy and euphoric. Most of all, it kicks like a mule. Check out the video (here) for teaser-track Dark Steering and know that I’m not lying.
Ufabulum will be issued in limited edition vinyl and CD formats which come loaded with more music in the form of the 3-track Enstrobia EP. The special edition vinyl will be printed in phosphorescent ink.
Ufabulum is out through Warp/Inertia on May 18th. Buy the bitch.
