#nowplaying – Trentemoller XLR8R podcast

  • It’s no secret that the DJ mix podcast is slowly killing the DJ mix CD. Free download vs store-bought CD – it’s impossible to compete with free, right?  Anders Trentemoller‘s entry into the Late Night Tales compilation series is due to drop any day now – but who will buy it?

After (only now) hearing his 2010 XLR8R podcast, I shall.

The Dane has transposed his tech-y mix skills (read: Ableton) into a rock n roll and altogether ‘artier’ direction. Possibly the most engaging DJ mix I’ve heard for many years because a) tracks are only mixed seamless when necessary – the track sequence determines the blend and not the other way around – and b) because it takes a left-turn into David Lynch territory at the 30 minute mark. If you’ve seen Twin Peaks, you’ll know where I am (and he is) coming from.

It’s a cliche, but this mix is as much for heritage rock fans as it is for die-hard tech heads. It’s anything but dance music. Wonderful stuff.

Trentemoller’s XLR8R podcast is available as a free download here.
